Sr. Materials Specialist


As a key member of the HDD BU Operations team, the Sr. Materials Specialist manages the inbound supply planning function and works with the worldwide supply chain team to balance supply for assigned products.   The Sr. Materials Specialist will be responsible for managing all aspects of materials flow and to maintain control and accuracy over all goods inventories, including all transactions, procurement, planning, scheduling, cost, warehouse, receiving, and shipping to ensure that customer orders are fulfilled on time. This role will report to the Manager Supply Chain/Logistics


  • Prepare and coordinate communications of supply/demand data between Sales, factories, suppliers, and other Toshiba divisions for the assigned CE Products within the HDD Business Unit; effectively support Sales requirements through the Weekly Demand & Supply (WDS) Balancing and Material Planning processes.  Prepare and distribute weekly supply availability information to all related functional groups
  • Create, update, and maintain the Weekly Demand & Supply (WDS) balancing new/revised purchase request data.
  • Prepare and publish weekly performance reports in line with departmental metrics/goals.
  • Responsible for logistics method planning and the associated purchasing process management.
  • Establish weekly/monthly supply plans to meet budget and forecast requirements. 
  • Maintain complete supply balance and visibility for assigned Toshiba storage products.
  • Effectively communicate high inventory exposure areas with the Business Unit and recommend corrective actions.  Manage and control aging inventory and communicate financial impacts to management.
  • Monitor inbound supply from various factories and overseas company locations to ensure supply accuracy and on time delivery, with focus on logistics cost reductions using EOQ strategies.  Calculate and monitor factory origin to Distribution Center transit times to develop optimal routings.
  • Maintain Daily Shipping Schedule and the cross-functional ATP supply allocation tools.
  • Update and maintain SGA /Oracle item master file for HQ price quotations (IPP).
  • Participate in weekly meetings with Japan to address current backlog and supply challenges.
  • Monitor freight forwarder and 3PL service levels and escalate performance degradation through appropriate channels for swift resolution.
  • Execute Return to Vendor processes as required.  Work with Global Supply Chain Management in Japan on cost savings projects.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned


  • BS/BA Marketing, Business Administration, or Finance or an equivalent combination of education and related business experience.
  • A minimum of four (4) to six (8) years of directly applicable experience in supply chain management/operations management in a technology field.
  • Strong working proficiency with MS Office applications including Excel, PowerPoint;  ERP – SGA/Oracle, web enabled logistics tracking applications.
  • Must be a self-starter with strong analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, while maintaining strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Supplier management skills, use of analytics, ability to provide executive level reporting of performance.
