Director/Sr. Director of SoC Design

Job Overview:

Candidate will work in a newly established Toshiba Memory America (TMA) Company.  TMA San Jose design center is one of TMC’s global design centers engaged in the next the generation Enterprise & Data center SSD (solid state storage) controller SOCs.

Design Director/Sr. Director candidate is responsible for managing the development of Enterprise class of SSD controllers as well as SSD IPs. Candidate will be in charge of defining, architecting & designing the SSD controller. 

Candidate will work closely with the marketing team & other storage research centers to gather ASIC’s features requirements for the design specification.  Design director manage & will mentor the design managers & the design team throughout the SOC development phases.

Responsibilities:

  • To manage a US based SOC design team, including recruiting and team building
  • Perform detailed research & analysis of Enterprise SSD technologies prior to design.
  • Will work closely with the technical marketing, customers & silicon supplier to define the SSD ASIC
  • Responsible for the development of the SSD Controller ASIC design specification.
  • Perform analysis of in-house as well as 3rd party IP’s for SOC integration
  • Assist SOC physical design implementation with ASIC vendor
  • Will manage both new & legacy ASIC products
  • Work closely with Verification, Validation & Firmware teams to resolve hardware issues
  • Implement SOC design into FPGA or Palladium for prototyping and emulation
  • Manage every aspect of the design center infrastructure such as design flow, EDA tools, automations, etc
  • Investigate the emerging SSD technologies such as KV drive, NVMe, NVMeOF, Data Compression & enable proof of concept.
  • Research the emerging 3D NAND, MRAM & RRAM memory technologies & their controller requirements

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in the following domains:
  • A proven strong management track record & ability to hire engineers & growing the design team
  • Experience in working in a global design team
  • Proven experience in SSD controller SOC architecture & design and support.
  • Experience in silicon die/area size, power estimation & design optimization.
  • Experience in working with ASIC vendors or internal COT model & physical implementation support
  • Experience in 3rd party storage IP investigation
  • Experience in Palladium and FPGA for prototyping of complex SOCs
  • Experience in PCIe, SAS & SATA interfaces is a plus
  • In-depth knowledge of NAND Flash management system & SSD eco-system

Education:

  • MSEE or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
